As with our other interviews, my questions will be in bold-face type.
When did you first start playing hockey? Who in your family played and was involved in you taking up the game? Have you always played your position, or have you played elsewhere on the ice? What was your favorite team and player growing up?
I started playing hockey as a ‘Timbit’ when I was four years old. I have two older brothers who played hockey before I did, so it was kind of a family thing that got me involved with the game. My father also played a huge role in getting me involved in the sport. He was my first coach and taught me the basics of the game. When I was growing up I always played center. However, in Junior I played left wing for one year and center for the remaining years. My favourite team growing up was the Anaheim Ducks, who also had my favourite player, Teemu Selanne, playing for them.
Why do you want to play college hockey as your junior career came to an end? What schools recruited you other than UAH? Why did you choose UAH?
I wanted to play college hockey after my Junior career because I wanted to get a good education while being able to continue with my hockey career. There were a few other schools who tried to recruit me, but UAH made the best impression on me, and I felt they had my best interests in mind along with my future. I found that UAH offered the best of both worlds with a well balanced mix of school and athletics.
What do you think are your strengths and weaknesses on the ice? What is your favorite game situation?
My strengths on the ice is my awareness and my ability to be able to read the play. I’m a well-rounded player who has many assets that can help the team. I would say my weakness is that I need to develop a quicker first two steps.
When you’re not playing hockey, what are your favorite sports? If we come across you away from the rink, what are you going to be doing?
If I’m not at the rink, you are most likely to find me up at the lake fishing or out on the boat. I also enjoy golf but I don’t get out to the links very often. The other sports I like are football and soccer. I used to play competitive soccer when I was younger but gave it up for hockey.
What do you want out of your UAH experience? What do you expect to learn here to make you a more well-rounded person?
I came to UAH to get a great education, while playing hockey at a higher caliber. I’m looking to make the most out of my four years here and make it the most enjoyable time possible. I hope I will gain a lot of life experiences at UAH to make me a better person in society.
